This engine kit comes with a variety of piston, liner and gasket set options. Please select the appropriate piston and gasket set type (If applicable) for your engine from the drop down menu above. If you are unsure of which piston or gasket set to select or need assistance, please contact us. 

Piston options offered with this kit include:

The gasket set options for this engine are based on how the engine is aftercooled. What is aftercooling? The terms after-cooling and inter-cooling are used interchangeably by various manufacturers to describe cooling of intake airflow from the turbocharger outlet. Ambient (outside) air or engine coolant passing though heat exchangers are the mechanisms for exchanging heat contained in turbo-pressurized intake air. 

There are two ways the 3406 engine was aftercooled:
JWAC - Jacket Water After Cooled - Engine Coolant is used to cool intake air.
ATAAC - Air to Air After Cooled - There will be an aftercooler mounted on the chassis in front of the radiator. Also known as Charge Air Cooled (CAC)

JWAC was the earlier design system. It was generally only used on early model 3406A and 3406B engines. Late model 3406B and 3406C used ATAAC systems. If you notice that there is not an option to select between ATAAC or JWAC based on your particular piston, it is most likely because your engine uses the newer, ATAAC system. 

This engine kit can be packaged with one of two different type cylinder liners. 
Standard Liners are identical to the design you would purchase from your local OE part supplier. It will feature one rectangular liner seal and two round o-rings. 
Crevice Seal Liners (Abbreviated as "C/S") are a superior design, patented by IPD. This liner utilizes a wider wedge-shaped rectangular seal and two o-rings, The wedge-shaped seal has been specifically designed to reduce the amount of cylinder liner movement. This upgrade greatly decreases the chances of liner flange breakage or premature o-ring failure (see below for more info).

Top signs that you may need to consider our Original IPD CS Cylinder Liner:

  • The liners and or o-rings you remove are severely deteriorated at the lower bore area.
  • Your lower bore in the block is deteriorated from the liner movement. 
  • The o-rings you remove are hard, square or flattened out to the point they no longer held back the coolant.
Key points to consider on how the IPD Crevice Seal Cylinder Liner may help you:

  • Supports the flange each time the cylinder fires and the piston tries to drag the liner into the crankcase, especially todays higher horsepower applications.
  • Stops further deterioration of top chamfer of the lower bore of the cylinder block.
  • Keeps the two lower O-rings from becoming square and useless due to excessive vibration resulting in loss of coolant into the oil pan and potentially substantial engine damage.
